In Multiple videos & podcasts with Karl Pilkington, Stephen Merchant and Ricky Gervais, you will find Stephen has always said how important it is to broaden the mind with travel.
I had some free time not to long ago where I catch up on my podcasts that I’ve been meaning to get through. One of which was Karl in 2020 when he was promoting his “new show” at the time, which was called “Sick Of It”. In that 2020 podcast where Karl Pilkington was getting interviewed, he actually said how Steve was RIGHT and how much he had learnt from doing An Idiot Abroad. At a time where Karl didn’t appreciate being put on a plane to visit a country he had no intention of visiting, Karl looks back fondly on it, which I really appreciated when listening to him say that many years after it had been put on TV.
Now obviously, 2020 was a year where no one was travelling, and in THAT moment, Karl couldn’t of had MORE gratitude for how much Steve had helped change and shift his focus on what was important most, which was to broaden his mind. Think of that… After all the times Karl had a pop at Steve over a 50 pence piece, and now he’s admitted he’s right! He grew from the experience and appreciated how he DID get to make “An Idiot Abroad”.
So that’s what this blog is all about. At the time of writing this blog, we are in Prague! And trying to broaden my own mind.
It also let’s us experience things we wouldn’t normally see at home, like torrential rain whilst I walk by the famous landmark of the Dancing House!
It’s important getting into different cultures as it shapes how we are to one another, whether that’s the people you meet, the experiences that you’re trying or the food you try! It opens our perspective on how others see certain situations too. Like different cultures and how other people live on this earth totally different to how we live.
So overall, I think Steve is totally on the money. He’s right! We should make the most of travelling and experience everything we possibly can as we only get one life. Make it a good one
